AC Milan is set for a significant tactical overhaul under the guidance of Ruben Amorim, who will start implementing his strategies at Milanello next week. Amorim's vision for the team is centered around 'dominant, attacking' football, which will require a profound shift in both the style of play and training methods. The team will transition from defending with a low block to pressing forward to win the ball back in dangerous areas immediately after losing possession.
The pressing will be synchronized, with specific drills designed to make these movements second nature. The goal is to regain possession within five to eight seconds, demanding significant sprinting effort and coordination among the players. Amorim will be heavily involved in the process, often halting sessions to offer corrections and ensure the team meets his high standards.
In addition to pressing, Amorim's system emphasizes build-up play starting from the back, with defenders required to handle the ball cleanly and midfielders aiding in precise passing and rapid ball movement. Training sessions will focus on possession drills, including vertical passes and switches of play, with players restricted to a maximum of two touches to encourage quick decisions.
The intensity of these training sessions will be high, with a focus on building physical stamina and replicating match conditions. Amorim also believes in integrating 'dry' running with the ball, rather than traditional interval training, to prepare players for the quick movements his style demands.
