Gerry Cardinale is still exploring the idea of hiring a new Director of Football to be the head of the sporting area, a journalist has claimed.

At the end of last season, Cardinale decided to part ways with CEO Giorgio Furlani, head coach Massimiliano Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare and the chief scout Geoffrey Moncada. Ruben Amorim replaced Allegri, but the ‘new’ management was composed of internal promotions.

After a summer window in which Milan spent big money but recouped very little from sales, there have been calls to hire someone with a bit more experience. There appears to be a missing link in the management, amid the talk Markus Krösche could end up arriving after all .

Cardinale searching for a DOF

Antonio Vitiello addressed the issue of a new member of the management joining during his weekly column for MilanNews, confirming that Cardinale is ‘trying’ to find the right candidate.

“Meanwhile, senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic returned to Milanello after a six-month absence. However, he will not be AC Milan’s new director. Owner Gerry Cardinale, now frequently in Milan to manage the team, is trying to find a new Head of Football to replace him when he’s away in Italy.

“He will be a point of reference, but all decisions will always be made through Cardinale, as the American manager has repeatedly emphasised in recent weeks. For better or worse, he will be directly responsible for everything this season.”
