During the usual Sunday video review in the Pressing studios, former referee Graziano Cesari analysed the main refereeing incidents of Serie A matchday six, focusing in particular on the Mapei Stadium clash between Sassuolo and Milan. According to the expert, the match officiating was marked by serious omissions that affected the course of the game, starting with a penalty not awarded to the Rossoneri in the first half.
Analyzing the first key episode, Cesari highlighted the misconduct in the Sassuolo area: "Inside Sassuolo’s penalty area, the black‑green defender Caleta‑Car embraces Gonçalo Ramos. In football you cannot do that. The ball is far away, so it is an even more serious foul. In the second half, the identical situation occurred, this time Ramos embraces Cinquegrana with the ball far away, but a foul is called against the Milan striker. The first‑half incident should be punished. The VAR cannot stay silent in that situation, the referee must follow the action, so he could not have missed it. It can be said that a clear penalty for Milan is missing."
The review on Laurentié: "Very high impact point on Gila’s leg"
The review then moved to another key incident near the Milan penalty area, involving Sassuolo forward Armand Laurentié and Rossoneri defender Mario Gila. For the former referee, the black‑green player’s reckless challenge deserved a much harsher sanction than the simple whistle.
Detailing the intervention and criticizing the lack of technological review, Cesari concluded: "Laurentié is about to enter the Milan area, but Gila intervenes, stops him and steals the ball. At that point the Sassuolo attacker regains possession, the referee whistles a foul, but does not issue any card. And what does the VAR do? Nothing. The point of impact on Gila’s leg is very high. The referee did not even give a yellow card."
