The AC Milan camp breathed a collective sigh of relief on Thursday as medical tests on defender Mario Gila revealed the severity of his injury was less than initially feared. Gila was forced off the pitch during the friendly match against Celtic after suffering a problem in his right femoral retinaculum.
The initial worry gave way to optimism as the examinations excluded any serious lesions and instead pinpointed a minor muscle irritation. The 26-year-old Spaniard will be closely monitored by the Milan medical staff in the coming days but his condition does not appear to be of major concern.
Head coach Ruben Amorim will aim to gradually work Gila back into the team's preparations, avoiding any unnecessary risks during the pre-season period. This will ensure the defender is in the best possible shape when the official season gets underway.
Gila's recovery is a significant boost for Amorim, who considers the Spain international one of the pillars of his new-look defence.
