There are players who seem destined to remain forever suspended between talent and recognition. João Félix certainly belongs to this category. The 1999-born has shown flashes of extraordinary quality, but has never managed to find the continuity needed to establish himself permanently at the highest European levels.

Today the Portuguese plays at Al Nassr alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, but the desire to become a protagonist again in Europe remains strong. In an interview granted to AS, the fantasist clearly opened up to the possibility of a return to top-level football.

WORDS, “I have thought, even if perhaps not immediately, about a return to Europe. I don’t know if it will be at the end of this season or the next, but I want to come back. Playing in Europe, playing in the Champions League, playing with the best teams in the world gives you extra motivation.”

Those words inevitably reignite old market scenarios. João Félix’s name is inevitably linked to Milan and today, with a series of favorable alignments, the hypothesis could become relevant again.

João Félix and Milan: the Amorim factor could change everything

The first element to consider is Ruben Amorim. The red-and-black coach knows Portuguese football very well and could represent the ideal manager to try to re-value a talent with particular characteristics again.

João Félix is neither a pure centre-forward nor a traditional winger. He needs freedom, to move between the lines, to find spaces to exploit his technique, vision and ability in the final pass. An offensive system based on movement and fluidity could allow him to express himself better than in contexts where he was asked to play a more rigid role.

Milan under Amorim, at least in intention, could offer him exactly that kind of environment: a team built to highlight technical and offensive players.

The Mendes track and the market opportunity

Another element not to underestimate is the relationship with Jorge Mendes, João Félix’s reference agent and a figure already close to the Milan world in several transfer operations. The presence of an established connection could facilitate possible dialogues should Milan decide to reassess the Portuguese’s profile.

The contractual situation could become a decisive factor. If João Félix were to reach the end of his contract with Al Nassr in June, the market could turn him into an interesting opportunity for several European clubs.

Naturally important questions remain: continuity, performance and the economic sustainability of the deal. Milan should carefully evaluate whether to still bet on a talent to be revived or invest in more reliable profiles.

But the appeal of the operation remains evident. A Portuguese for a Portuguese coach, in a system potentially suited to his qualities, with a possible economic opportunity on the market.
