Former Juventus player Massimo Mauro has emphasized the importance of investing in youth and respecting tradition when it comes to top clubs like AC Milan. Speaking at the 21st edition of the Vialli and Mauro Golf Cup, Mauro touched on various topics ranging from the Italian national team to Milan's transfer strategy. He believes that clubs like Milan and Juventus have a responsibility to invest adequately and respect their history.
Mauro expressed concerns about the current state of Italian football, where top young players are often sold abroad due to high price tags. He cited the example of Palestra, a talented player who may cost 50 million euros, a price that Mauro considers excessive. This, he argues, leads clubs to opt for cheaper foreign players instead of developing Italian talent.
When asked if the Como model could be emulated by bigger clubs, Mauro was skeptical. He noted that playing for Como is different from wearing the jersey of a historic club like Milan or Juventus. While he wishes Como all the best, he believes that Milan and similar clubs must prioritize their tradition and make suitable investments.
Mauro's comments serve as a reminder to AC Milan and other top clubs about the importance of balancing financial prudence with investment in youth and respect for their heritage.
