AC Milan are struggling to offload midfielder Ismael Bennacer due to his hefty contract. The Algerian's annual salary of 8.5 million euros, including 4 million euros net, is a significant burden on the club's finances. Bennacer has not been part of the team's plans for some time, and his performances have declined since a serious knee injury against Inter.
The club are keen to resolve the situation but face obstacles. Dinamo Zagreb, who have been loaning Bennacer, do not plan to exercise their 10 million euro option to buy. Their sporting director, Zvonimir Boban, has expressed interest in retaining Bennacer but only if he can negotiate a contract termination with Milan.
Milan want to avoid taking a hit on Bennacer's transfer value, but finding a buyer willing to pay for his services is proving difficult. With his contract running until 2027, the most likely solution seems to be a mutually agreed contract termination, which would help reduce the club's wage bill and free up funds for new signings.
The fate of Bennacer will likely dominate Milan's transfer news for some time, as the club seeks to balance their finances with their ambitions on the pitch.
