Milan has found in Diego Moreira one of the most interesting surprises of this start of the season. Arriving in Milan with the weight of the €50 million invested by the club to take him from Strasbourg, the Portuguese responded in the best way: three goals in the first five league matches, all coming off the bench. The numbers tell the immediate impact of a player who has never had scoring as his main characteristic, but who is showing an important ability to influence the final metres.

The latest demonstration came against Lecce, when Ruben Amorim deployed him as a left-sided attacking midfielder. A different position from that of a pure winger, but it could represent a possible tactical evolution to allow Moreira to get closer to the goal and better exploit some of his qualities.

Deployed behind the striker, Moreira can have the possibility to move with greater freedom compared to the flank. His ability to mark a man, change tempo and attack spaces can become an important weapon for a Milan that often needs more unpredictability in the central area of the pitch.

From the left attacking midfield position, the Portuguese can start from a more central spot and then widen, create numerical superiority and look for a finish. The goal against Lecce was born precisely from this situation: an offensive reception, the ability to find the right corridor and composure in front of goal.
