Thiago Silva has agreed to a contract extension with Fluminense until 2027, crushing hopes of a return to AC Milan. The Brazilian defender had been linked to the Rossoneri earlier in May as a potential free agent signing. A part of the Milan fanbase had been excited about the prospect of reuniting with their former captain, but those dreams are now over.
Silva will continue his career in Brazil with Fluminense, the club that brought him back home after his European stints with Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Porto. The 38-year-old had been with Fluminense since 2022 and has now committed to stay with the club for several more years.
AC Milan's sporting structure has undergone significant changes since May, with new key figures in charge of transfers and potentially different plans for the team's future. However, it's clear that Thiago Silva won't be part of those plans.
The news will likely be met with a mix of reactions from the Milan fanbase, with some disappointed that their club couldn't lure back a legendary player, while others may see it as a chance for younger talent to emerge.
