On the eve of Milan‑Benfica, a Europa League group stage match marking the Rossoneri’s debut in the competition, Ruben Amorim held a press conference to present the San Siro clash.

The Portuguese coach analysed the team’s situation after the draw against Lazio, focusing especially on the different attitude shown by Milan between the first and second half. He also spoke about his past link with Benfica, explaining his decision to embark on the adventure with the Rossoneri.

'Against Lazio there was a change of attitude from one moment to the next: I made my assessments, it does not involve only two or three names but there was a different attitude. I am not someone who always keeps the same eleven. There was a general change of attitude. We must also consider that we are in weeks where we have to manage several matches and therefore we think not only about Benfica, but also about Lecce. In any case, against Lazio it was a matter of attitude.'

Amorim therefore reiterated the need to manage energy in a period full of commitments, hinting at possible rotations in the line‑up against Benfica. For the Portuguese coach, however, the central point does not concern only the selected players, but the overall approach of the team.

'I had a clear idea. There was a possibility that I would return to work in Portugal, but I decided no. If I had received a call from a Portuguese club I would have said no. Then Milan called me and I could not say no. I would not have returned to Portugal, I chose Milan and I am happy with this important decision.'

Amorim’s words confirm his strong link with Portuguese football, but also his conviction in the choice to lead Milan. The coach is now called upon to give continuity to the Rossoneri’s European campaign, starting with the clash against Benfica.
