Federico La Penna has been named the referee for AC Milan’s clash against Lecce, officiating his third game of the season.

Milan are looking to bounce back from a little bit of a slump, drawing two games and losing one. The most frustrating part has arguably been the slow first halves which, at least against Lazio, cost them the three points in the end.

Tonight’s game against Lecce, as such, is very important to bounce back ahead of the international break. The history of the fixture certainly suggests that they will get the job done, but the referee record isn’t as clear-cut.

Mixed record with La Penna

La Penna has been named the referee for the game by AIA and it will actually only be his third game of the season (one in Serie A and one in Serie B). That might sound worrying to some, but it should be noted that he has been the fourth official a lot so far.

He has officiated nine Milan games before, so this will be his tenth, and the record has been very mixed so far: Four wins, two draws and three defeats. Three penalties have been handed out to the Rossoneri by the referee, but also two red cards resulting from second yellows.

We have to go back to the 2024-25 season for his last Milan game: a 2-1 defeat against Atalanta. Paulo Fonseca was the manager then and was far from happy with La Penna for not giving a foul before the Bergamo side’s first goal.
