Milan could start seriously considering Tiago Gabriel ahead of the winter transfer window. The Portuguese defender, born in 2004, is confirming all his qualities with Lecce, becoming one of the protagonists of the Salento side's excellent start.

In the home win over Monza, Tiago Gabriel scored his second league goal with a powerful header from a corner taken by Ilic. Besides the goal, the centre‑back again showed personality, order and the ability to lead the back line.

According to data from Sofascore, in the first league matches the Portuguese has averaged two won tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.5 recovered balls and 3.8 defensive clearances per game. He has also not committed any errors that directly led to an opponent’s goal.

Milan had already tried to buy Tiago Gabriel

As recalled by Calciomercato.com, Milan attempted to sign the player during the summer, even considering an overall offer of around €20 million. That proposal would not have convinced Lecce.

The sporting director Stefano Trinchera explained the Salento club’s choice: "There were no conditions to conclude a beneficial deal for the club, we are a solid society that can afford the luxury of not selling an important player. He had the chance to go to a big club that would change his life, but it was not the right moment. Tiago will be a protagonist."

In January the valuation could reach €30 million

Milan may need to add a versatile and reliable centre‑back to Ruben Amorim’s three‑man defence. Good relations with Jorge Mendes and Gestifute, who also handle Tiago Gabriel’s interests, could ease new contacts.

The Portuguese fits the profile sought by the Rossoneri in terms of tactical traits, age and growth potential. The main difficulty remains the price: after this brilliant start, Lecce could ask for a sum close to €30 million, making any negotiation below that threshold very complicated.
