Milano, as is well known, has always been a city for two: on one side we have Milan and on the other Inter, a rivalry that does not stop only on the pitch but also reflects in the supporters. Determining with certainty which team is the most supported in the Lombardy city is not very simple: there are no official censuses capable of precisely establishing the football faith of Milanese. For this reason, Yoodata, a data‑science company, has produced for Milano Quotidiano a possible estimate of the fan distribution in the city.

Milan and Inter, which team is more supported?

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri have contested the city supremacy for decades, not only in terms of trophies but also in popular following. While Inter leads in the number of city supporters, the picture changes when looking at stadium attendances: Milan, in fact, finished ahead of its rivals in the number of spectators brought to San Siro with about 1.39 million total attendances. Only Manchester United is ahead of Milan, with about 1.40 million fans. Inter, on the other hand, stopped at only 1.38 million.
