Speaking on Carlo Pellegatti's YouTube channel, journalist Sandro Sabatini took a position on Luka Modric's performance, which has become the centre of debate after some displays with Milan. Sabatini disputed the idea that the Croatian midfielder can be considered the team's main problem, also recalling what he has recently shown with Croatia.
The journalist then analysed the special ranking of the oldest goal‑scorers in Milan's history, in which Modric can still surpass Alessandro Costacurta and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
MODRIC'S PERFORMANCE AT MILAN, “I was very annoyed when I kept hearing, even in programmes where we often see each other as bench mates, that ‘the problem is Modric’. Calm down, the problem is Modric only from the 60th minute onwards, when time passes, and not only metaphorically. Maybe. However Modric scores goals with Croatia, so Milan has nothing to do with it and Amorim has nothing to do with it, I do not want to start arguments with anyone, by pressing, taking part in ball recovery, setting up the play and then unleashing a crazy shot from 25 metres.”
After having broken Alessandro Costacurta's record, Modric could also aim for the record held by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Croatian will need to score after 25 February 2027 to become the oldest player to have scored a goal in Milan's history. The first useful opportunity would be the Como‑Milan match, scheduled for the weekend of 27‑28 February.
Modric's performance and longevity therefore continue to represent one of the most interesting topics at Milan. The Croatian midfielder, besides being an important piece for Amorim, also has the possibility of setting another record in the history of the red‑and‑black club.
