The transfer rumours about Milan keep circulating: between the January window and next summer the red‑black management could look for an attacking midfielder and a central defender. Besides the always possible link for Gonçalo Inácio of Sporting, the latest rumors talk about two experienced and important defenders for Milan: Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool and Kim Min‑jae of Bayern Munich. Both are players of absolute quality: the Dutchman has been the Liverpool leader for many seasons and has been considered for years one of the best in his position. The South Korean, on the other hand, has already played in Italy with Napoli and knows the Italian league very well.

Numbers compared: Sofascore statistics of Kim and Van Dijk
Here are the seasonal numbers in the Premier League for the Dutchman (also from Sofascore):
Absolutely important numbers for both. But which player would currently be more suitable for the Milan project with Amorim on the bench? No doubt tactically: both could represent the missing piece of the puzzle to make the rear‑guard of Milan truly complete.
Age factor and operation costs: economic differences
The last factor to consider is the financial one: in terms of transfer fee, the Dutchman could arrive for free since his contract with Liverpool expires in June 2027. The South Korean’s contract runs until 2028, but Bayern Munich could still ask for a significant sum to release him (around thirty million). In terms of salary, both involve large amounts: Van Dijk earns €7.4 million net per season, while Kim is at €6.4 million net. These are the most important differences between the two profiles, which nevertheless remain complex as both would be very important signings for Amorim’s Milan.
