During the usual press conference on the eve before Milan's away match against Lazio, Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim responded firmly to the doubts raised about Luka Modrić's game tempo. At the venerable age of 41, the management of the Croatian star remains one of the central themes of the season, but the Portuguese coach clarified his thoughts without hesitation.

To explain his view Amorim uses the example of the clash against Juventus, admitting that the lower aggressiveness in the defensive phase can give more space to opponents, just as happened with Douglas Luiz. However, the overall balance remains largely positive: the possible sacrifice of pressing is repaid by the ability to dictate the match rhythm once the ball is recovered.

For the Portuguese coach, if a compromise is necessary it must concern the defensive phase and not the possession phase. It is precisely here that the Croatian's value becomes indispensable: his tactical intelligence can give the team that quality jump, becoming dominant.
