Former Milan goalkeeper Giovanni Galli has officially taken on the role of head of delegation for Italy Under‑18, a decision made by FIGC president Giovanni Malagò and national team technical director Claudio Ranieri. Galli will work closely with Daniele Franceschini, coach of the Azzurrini currently competing in Croatia and preparing for the U18 World Cup in Qatar.

Ex Milan, Giovanni Galli returns to the National Team

After his debut with Fiorentina, Galli moved to Milan in 1986, where he stayed until 1990. With the red‑black shirt he won one Serie A title, two European Cups, one Italian Super Cup, one European Super Cup and one Intercontinental Cup. His career later continued at Napoli, Torino and Parma. For Italy the goalkeeper earned 19 caps, winning the 1982 World Cup in Spain as a third‑choice keeper.

The official FIGC statement

The FIGC announced Galli’s new appointment through a communiqué released on its official channels: "We are pleased to welcome Giovanni Galli to Club Italia and entrust him with the role of head of delegation of the Under‑18 National Team. His history, international experience and the values he has always represented on and off the pitch will be an important reference for our young Azzurrini. We are convinced that his presence can provide a valuable contribution to the boys’ development path, helping them to wear the national jersey with awareness, responsibility and pride."

Galli’s first words

Immediately after the appointment, Galli told the Federation’s channels about his return to the national side: "I am proud and happy to join Club Italia and to be able to accompany a group of young players in their development journey. Wearing the blue shirt is always a special responsibility and being able to pass on to the boys what I have learned in my career is a great motivation for me. I want to be by their side, on and off the field, offering experience, passion and anything that can help them grow, both as footballers and as men."
