In fact, Calciomercato.com reported that Milan will scout the midfielder at the Stadio Olimpico tonight, where he is expected to start for Italy against Belgium. However, the same source reports that Milan are keen on Paul Mendy too.

An investment for the future

Last season, Mendy made his Serie A debut, scoring a brace against Atalanta in just 45 minutes in a 3-2 home win. This summer, Cagliari - rather than sending him out on loan to gain experience, took a big gamble on him - giving him a starting role.

The decision was made primarily by Fabio Pisacane, who has been following him like a sort of footballing father since his time with the Cagliari Primavera, and it’s proving to be absolutely the correct call.

One of Mendy’s best qualities is his ability to absorb every bit of advice thrown at him by the more experienced players in the dressing room and he now manages the tempo and moments of matches better, and works better for the team.

This is precisely what emerges from the reports compiled by Milan’s scouts, who have been monitoring him closely in recent matches. Mendy is physically imposing, has good technique, moves well and can lead the line on his own.

He needs to improve on certain areas - especially in his finishing - but he has the right mentality to reach the top. Milan are quite confident of this and they are considering signing the Senegalese forward as 'an investment for the future, starting next season'.

They will closely monitor his progress Cagliari in the coming months before making a final decision. This is also because competition for the player is already fierce: among the top Serie A clubs that have shown concrete interest are Inter.
