With the winter transfer window reopening in January, Milan's management is studying the moves needed to strengthen the backlog package available to coach Ruben Amorim. Among the profiles most closely monitored by Gerry Cardinale's technical area is the profile of Tiago Gabriel, a defender currently under contract with Lecce.

Today's edition of Corriere dello Sport reports on the Rossoneri's interest in the Portuguese centre-back, headlining: "Tiago Gabriel target for early 2027". The performances offered with the Salento shirt have attracted the constant attention of the Via Aldo Rossi hierarchy, determined to assess the feasibility of the operation.

The position of the Apulian club and the economic assessment

As reported in the newspaper: "The Portuguese, assisted by Jorge Mendes, renewed this week until 2030 with the Salento club, but his ambition to make a step up is clear. Either in January or next summer. Milan therefore remains on the lookout, aware of the player's qualities and ready to spend for him from 25 million euros upwards. Much will clearly depend on the Rossoneri's league position and on Lecce's ability to part with one of the pillars of Di Francesco's formation."

What protects the Lecce club is the contractual extension finalized a short time ago. On 17 September, the yellow-red club released the following official note regarding the defender's future: "U.S. Lecce announces it has extended the contract with player Tiago Gabriel, which was due to expire on 30 June 2027, until the end of the 2029/30 sporting season." Milan awaits further developments to understand the margins of a spring or winter deal.
