Adrien Rabiot is increasingly at the centre of Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan, with a new role and new responsibilities.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) report this morning, one of Amorim’s intuitions in his early tenure at Milan has been to move Rabiot closer to goal. They suggest that the Frenchman has now been shifted permanently into the attacking midfield positions.

The reasons? The head coach wants to take advantage of his runs, physicality and his end product. Against Lazio, the former PSG man will once again be one of the men called upon to lead the Rossoneri hopefully (and possibly temporarily) to the top of the Serie A table.

A shift in role

The first signs of this already came against Torino in the season opener at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, with Rabiot coming off the bench to register an assist and a goal, showing how the shift can work.

Amorim is asking him to occupy the spaces behind Gonçalo Ramos and support Alphadjo Cisse’s runs, transforming him into a true link between midfield and attack. Speaking of links, there has also been talk of a renewal, too.

This move allows Milan to add experience and strength in the final third, as well as a significant presence in the penalty area without sacrificing balance. Rabiot has accepted the new role with great openness, quickly becoming one of the technical leaders of the new Rossoneri era.

Christian Pulisic’s gradual recovery will soon increase the options, but in the meantime, Amorim has a new weapon for his 3-4-2-1 in Rabiot. The goal is to build a Milan capable of transforming without losing its identity, aggressive and ready to attack even against high‑level opponents.

The match against Lazio represents another important test. Rabiot, meanwhile, seems perfectly integrated into the new setup after all the talk this summer: from a cornerstone under Allegri to a key player for Amorim, but with an even more attacking role.
