Gianni Rivera was a guest at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, where he revisited some of the main stages of his career with Milan and the national team.

The evening of Rivera at the Festival dello Sport

During the event in Trento, Rivera's history was recalled through several objects taken from a trunk placed on stage. Among the memories were his original 1969 Ballon d'Or, his first yellow card, the Milan number 10 shirt and the star of the tenth Scudetto. There was also space for some front pages of La Gazzetta dello Sport dedicated to Milan's European triumphs and the World Cup semifinal against West Germany.

Milan, the interview with Rivera

When asked about the possibility of naming the new Milan and Inter stadium after him and Mazzola, Rivera welcomed the idea, emphasizing the symbolic value of the two flags for the city of Milan: "Name the new stadium after me and Mazzola? Why not, I would be happy. And I am sure he would be too. We were two important protagonists of the years we played, two monuments of football and of our respective clubs: it would be nice to have something physical, to touch, to remember us".

The rivalry with Mazzola at the 1970 World Cup

The conversation then moved to the relay with Mazzola during the 1970 Mexico World Cup, which ended with the final lost to Brazil in which the 'Golden Boy' played only the final minutes: "We played together during the World Cups before and after Mexico. A pity that there it was not possible. And that match with Brazil would have been the only one I should really have played".

Rivera on Malagò and Mancini's return

To close his intervention, the former Milan captain criticised the new cycle of the national team: "Malagò as president does not excite me and neither does Mancini's return, after he went to Arabia only for the money".
