Mario Gila was forced off towards the end of AC Milan’s draw against Juventus last night with knee discomfort.

The final change came for the Rossoneri in the last few minutes and it raised some eyebrows with the team 1-0 up having kept Juventus at bay. The typically exceptional Gila was withdrawn for Filippo Terracciano, who slotted in at right centre-back.

Of course it would be reductive to say that one change led to conceding the equalising goal , especially given Terracciano was not at fault for Federico Gatti not being marked, but it is the third league game that Gila has not been able to complete.

According to what is being reported by MilanNews , the Spaniard asked to come off this time because he felt discomfort in his patellar tendon. It was deemed best not to risk further damage and so Ruben Amorim sent a replacement on.

The centre-back spoke to DAZN after the game to offer his thoughts and he confirmed that he felt something in his knee, which one would presume needs extra investigation in view of Saturday’s trip to face Lazio.

"It would seem unfair to say the team is struggling without me. I think they deserved the draw. We weren’t 100% fit; we lost a lot of possession," he said.

"We were in the game until the very end against a strong team like Juve. I haven’t been able to finish the games yet, and that’s disappointing. Today I felt some discomfort in my kneecap, but the draw isn’t to be sniffed at."

SportMediaset confirm that Gila will undergo tests today to determine his true condition, with an eye on the fact another big away game is up next, one against his former club.
