After talk of the opposite all summer, it seems that AC Milan may not sign another central defender in the final days of the mercato.

Through the mercato, a central defensive addition has been discussed regularly. Goncalo Inacio has remained a top priority in the eyes of many fans. Even if it wasn’t to be the Portuguese, most agreed someone else was needed at the back.

Names remain in the mix, but with Fikayo Tomori taking his stand today , adding another option may become somewhat of a challenge.

Milan considering no defender…

In fact, this is what is being reported by Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin. Indeed, he states that Milan may not add anyone else in the defence, with the management in agreement over the situation, as MilanNews relays.

“The truth is that AC Milan is seriously considering not signing that additional defender. The club remains vigilant on the market, but at the moment, the chances of the centre-back not arriving are greater than the opposite.

“Why? First of all, due to the lack of a particularly convincing candidate. AC Milan has evaluated several centre-backs, and none is considered indispensable. None, for Cardinale, Amorim, Almstadt, and Gardiner, would change the level of the defence.

“Then, regarding the evaluation of the players. Diawara and Vladimirov are appreciated by Amorim.”

It’s a tough position to be in, but if there’s no one worthwhile adding, then no one will be added.
