Milan closed the outgoing transfer window with the departure of Christopher Nkunku, who moved to Leipzig after just one season in red and black. The separation, according to Fabrizio Romano, came in a different manner compared to other sales such as Youssouf Fofana.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, the market expert explained how the Frenchman did not expect the club’s decision and was convinced he could have an important role in the new tactical system of Ruben Amorim.

Romano said: “These are two different stories that were handled differently because while Fofana quickly understood there would be no room to continue together at Milan, Nkunku, with the statements released earlier, made clear he did not expect the red and black club to put him out the door in that way. He arrived at Milan a year ago and the Frenchman was hoping for another chance.”

He then clarified the reason for the striker’s surprise, noting that Nkunku believed he could be a useful piece in Amorim’s ideas.

Regarding Amorim’s system, Romano added: “Why all this surprise? From what I hear, he thought he could help in several roles in Amorim’s new system, both as a deputy to Gonçalo Ramos and as an attacking midfielder behind the centre‑forward. Nkunku thought he had landed in the right system and club, but Milan made other choices in total agreement between the hierarchy and the coach, leading to the departure.”

The transfer therefore reflects a technical decision shared by the club and the coach, with Milan opting for other profiles to build the offensive unit for Amorim.
