Monza secured a place in the Coppa Italia round of 16 and earned a showdown against Milan. The Lombard side beat Torino 1-0 thanks to Dany Mota's decisive goal, which came in first‑half injury time.

It was an important victory for the team coached by Ivan Juric, capable of playing an organised and concrete match, exploiting one of the best chances created. The difficult spell continues for Ignazio Abate, who suffers his third consecutive defeat in his first three games on the Granata bench.

Torino-Monza, first‑half balance: Mota unlocks in stoppage time

The match opened immediately with a big chance for Torino: after just one minute Oristanio hit the post with a low drive that surprised the Lombard defence.

Monza grew as minutes passed and found several offensive solutions, especially thanks to Robinson's initiatives, among the best on the pitch. In the 26th minute the Englishman jumped an opponent in the area and won a corner, while in the 33rd minute a possible advantage occurred.

Bakoune was brought down by Fortini and the referee awarded a penalty to Monza, but after VAR review the decision was cancelled for a prior off‑side.

The goal, however, arrived shortly after. In the 45+3 minute, from a cross in the box, Dany Mota beat the Torino defender and out‑foxed Perri with a precise touch under the goalkeeper’s legs: Monza 1-0.

Torino-Monza, second half Granata pressure not enough

In the second half Torino tried to respond and Abate introduced Vlasic and Zapata to increase the attacking weight. The Granata raised the tempo, but struggled to create clear chances.

Monza continued to be dangerous on the break. In the 48th minute a great action by Mota, who served Robinson: the Englishman found Perri’s response, but the play was then stopped for off‑side.

In the 73rd minute the big chance for a double came: Robinson struck a volley and hit the post, with Torino once again saved by luck.

At the end the home side sought an equaliser. In the 79th minute Zapata brushed past 1-1 with a powerful shot that narrowly missed, while in the 90+4 minute a new VAR episode occurred: the referee awarded a penalty to Torino for a handball by Lucchesi, but after monitor review the decision was changed and the penalty revoked.

After seven minutes of injury time the final whistle blew: Monza beat Torino 1-0 and advanced to the Coppa Italia round of 16.

The next opponent will be Milan, in a clash that will pit Ruben Amorim’s side against Juric’s team for a place in the quarter‑finals of the competition.
