A difficult evening for Diego Moreira and for all of Belgium, beaten clearly 4-1 by France. The Milan player tried to put his qualities at the service of the team, especially through dribbles and accelerations, but failed to turn the dynamism into danger in the final metres.

The statistics of his game show exactly this two‑sided nature. Moreira recorded 41 touches, covering a total of 203.9 metres in dribbling and logging 13 runs. Particularly significant is the total progression figure, equal to 141.5 metres, while 121.8 metres were gained through progressive dribbles. The longest was 42.4 metres.

Numbers that tell of Moreira's willingness to carry the ball forward and break the French lines, but which was not matched by equal effectiveness in the decisive area.

Moreira, no shots and only one dribble completed

The most negative figure concerns the offensive production. Moreira did not even make a single attempt, thus inevitably ending with zero shots on target. Even in one‑on‑one the balance was not particularly brilliant: only one successful dribble out of three attempted.

He nevertheless created a chance through a key pass, while of the four crosses attempted only one found a teammate. Practically non‑existent, on the other hand, is the expected‑assist figure: just 0.02 xA.

Moreira, accuracy to improve and too many lost balls

Possession management also shows some difficulties. The Milanist completed 17 passes out of 24 attempted, for a accuracy of 71%. In the opponent's half the figure rises to 80%, with eight passes completed out of ten, while in his own half it drops to 64%, nine out of fourteen.

The 13 lost balls weigh heavily, a high number compared with the 41 total touches.

Nevertheless, there was work without the ball. Moreira recorded seven defensive contributions, with five blocks, one interception and one shot deflected. He, however, won only one of the five ground duels and none of the aerial duels faced.

Overall a generous but not very effective performance, within an extremely difficult match for all of Belgium. Moreira once again showed the ability to gain ground with his feet, but against France the very thing that can make the difference was missing: turning progressions into chances, assists or shots.
