AC Milan and Inter are truly in the process of moving to a new home, and whilst it won’t be a major shift geographically, it will be a historic moment.

Today, San Siro turned 100, so it’s fitting that the stadium celebrates with the talk of its younger sibling expected to arrive in 2031. The current hope is that the new San Siro will be open for the 2032 European Championship and this is the clear goal.

Next month, the stadium’s design should be unveiled and then it will be a case of proceeding through the building and various battles that may arise. There is a long time until the stadium opens, but there is reason to be optimistic.

Questions about the New San Siro

On his X account, football finance expert Felice Raimondo posted an extract from his latest Substack deep dive, and there were some interesting points picked out about the cost of the operation and whether the stadium would be sold…

"The operation costs €2.3 billion, not €1.5bn. The clubs will (perhaps) sell the neighbourhood, but not the stadium. The real estate portion more or less pays for itself: with a gross margin of about €47 million, with revenues after 2033.

"The balance shows a surplus of €265 million, but only because of a ‘theoretical value’ of €2.15 billion assigned to the stadium, whose calculation the document doesn’t explain."
