In the Italian night the window for national team call‑ups for Milan players officially closed. The United States beat Canada 1-0, securing their fourth win in four friendlies played during this break. It was a perfect run for the US side, which also featured Yunus Musah, Milan midfielder and the last Milan player to return from international duties.
Deployed by coach Mauricio Pochettino as a right wing‑back in a back‑three on the right flank, Musah started from the first minute but his game lasted only a fraction of play. At halftime, the American manager chose to replace him by bringing on former Milan player Serginho Dest. The match was decided within the first forty‑five minutes, thanks to Ellis’s goal in the 29th minute, scored while the Milan midfielder was still on the pitch.
The US midfielder’s performance proved decidedly dull and below the standards shown at the start of the season. In attack his contribution was almost nil: he never managed a shot on target, touched only 20 balls, completed a single dribble and lost nine balls. His distribution also showed several inaccuracies in his own half, committing three errors on nine total passes.
His defensive contribution was slightly better, recording a decisive intervention, one tackle won on a shot attempt and two ground duels won out of four. However, a defensive lapse also allowed a dangerous chance for the Canadian side. Despite the unremarkable spell in the USA shirt, Milan now awaits his return to focus on the upcoming league commitments.
